Lars Christensen

Lars ChristensenLars Christensen is a native of Copenhagen, Denmark, who moved to the U.S. (by way of Iceland) when he married an American woman from Maine. Lars has traveled extensively throughout Europe and North America, pursuing an eclectic array of jobs, and enjoying the ability to meet people from many different cultures and all walks of life.

A constant in his life has always been his art. Lars taught himself how to draw when he was a young boy and, in fact, has never had formal art lessons. Drawing was, and is, an intensely personal part of his life and he has often found it to be necessary escape for situations that remain out of his control. Happily, art has also been a joy-filled pursuit that has enabled him to experience a quiet peace and a proud sense of accomplishment.

Lars is the author and illustrator of two children’s books, Jerry the Joyful Jet and Larry and Wuppy, both of which will soon be sold here at Raven House Publishing. Lars is also currently supplying illustrations to other authors for use in their books. In addition, he started his own business, Longship, LLC, as an outlet for his drawings and musings, and is pleased to have his products sold through Raven House Publishing, LLC.

When not at his drawing table, Lars can be found on his motorcycle turning down a road he has not yet traveled, eager to see what is out there.

Image Notes:

Fishing.
This is the way we connect. This is a picture of all of us. Someone taking us by the hand and showing us the way of the world. It is not someone from my past. It's everybody who ever gave me a hand or who I ever helped find their way. It's the bond that exists among us all. A quiet, unbreakable bond.

Shaman.
Clay's book cover. I'll try not to give anything away about the book. Read it.  Native Americans are connected with their past and the earth in a way western "civilization" seems to have forgotten and the Shaman's purpose in life is to make sure that the connection is unbroken. It's the person in the foreground who is the catalyst to the people, earth, heaven and past in the background.

Snow Walker.
Have you ever heard snow fall?
I have always been interested in the Chinese and Japanese painters. The way they capture silence, solitude and greatness of nature in a few single strokes of a brush is fascinating to me.  Especially since I draw a lot of details in pictures, so I sometimes go back to the basics of drawing or painting: as few lines as possible to make a whole. A lone person traveling in the quietly falling snow.

Teepee.
Clay's back cover. It's a teepee, but since the book is about the present, I tried to give it a dreamy look of a time gone by but never forgotten. For most people, the story about the Native people of America is a long gone thing of the past.  For the Natives themselves, it was yesterday.

Jerry’s Canyon Tour & Jerry The Joyful Jet (book)
From the book, “Jerry the Joyful Jet”, comes this fun, colorful piece. As Jerry explores around the world, he flies over the vast desert terrain. In this unique painting he is seen taking in the majestic view of the South West desert area. Sure to brighten any kids room, regardless of age. The art is 14” X 17”, with the image size being 11” X 14”. The colorful image was captured using Phase One Powerphase FX digital camera, definitely something to crow about! The art is on heavy archival paper designed to last.
