Brenda Nelson
Brenda's early love was horses, unable to own one she explored them
through art. Given the opportunity to go to college to study art, or
learn about horses, she picked horses and graduated from Olds College,
Alberta, in 1985, and continued with art on the side. Working in the horse industry for several years gave her a sense of
detail for her pieces. Later she explored drawing and painting other
animals, often doing commissions of peoples pets.
A devoted animal lover, Brenda worked in an SPCA for five years and spent additional time learning about proper pet care and nutrition. She has written pet care columns for several newspapers, and continues to share her knowledge through writing.
Having dreamed of life in the country, Brenda currently lives on 10 acres in Alberta, with her husband, daughter, and several pets.

Image Notes:
“I’m Not Tony”
This painting came about from Brenda’s love of animals. She had done a
series of drawings on tigers and decided she would like to progress the
series with a painting. “I’m Not Tony” is a cute title with a serious
back message. Wild animals aren’t a cartoon and require the involvement
of the human population of this world to protect them.
“Nearing Retirement”
Brenda did a series of paintings of this barn. In this one it’s at that
normally awkward spring stage where the snow is melting and leaving
puddles and things are not yet green.
She did it with minimal paint colors; most of the painting is a mixture only of a blue and yellow ochre, with red for the tractor. She enjoyed painting this barn and loves the look of decaying farm structures, ones whose builders have probably long passed away.
